Mission & Vision

Emerging Families in Engaged Learning and Discipleship (Emerging FIELD), founded in April 2016, aims to provide educational and Christian discipleship training for people of all ages in low-income and/or immigrant communities.  We are a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

About the 75211 zip code

The U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (2010-2014) estimated that  in the 75211 zip code, 28.2% of individuals lived below the poverty level, as compared to 24.1% for the City of Dallas and 17.7% for the state of Texas.  Half (49.48%) of all adults over the age of 25 had not completed high school.  In this community that is predominantly (83%) Hispanic/ Latino, more than three-quarters of the population over the age of five speaks a language other than English.

The 2016-2017 Dallas ISD profiles of four elementary schools clustered around Arcadia Park Library (Arcadia Park, Celestino M Soto, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Nancy J. Cochran Elementary Schools) categorize 64-72% of its student populations as "at risk" and 94-98% as "low socio-economic status."

A 2013 study by Stand for Children, an education advocacy nonprofit, identified 75211 as one of the top ten zip codes in the "cradle-to-prison" pipeline in Dallas, correlating low academic achievement with incarceration rate.

This is not the whole picture. however.  The community is rich in hardworking families, children who have great potential and desire to learn, and strong family networks.  By providing supplementary educational opportunities and affirming the potential and assets of the community, Emerging FIELD aims to help families achieve a more secure future.
