Yesterday one of my dear friends texted me, asking for prayer as her father was just placed on life support. He had been sick for a while, and yesterday woke up unable to breathe. The doctors found a major infection. My heart broke for her as I could never imagine losing a parent, but when I looked into scripture for encouraging words to say to her, I stumbled on Psalm 46:1, which says this: “God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed.”
These words really stuck to me.
So often we find ourselves concerned and worried about things on this earth, and while that is a completely human thing to do, we need to trust in the Lord regardless of what happens on earth. I know that it can be so easy to live simply for things on this earth and it can be extremely difficult to keep our eyes and hearts set on the Lord. And while we may lose loved ones, and life may become unbearable, God should be our strength during those times because He will always be there, even when things on this earth aren’t.
God remains faithfully in so many areas of my life, yet I still find it difficult to keep Him at the center of my thoughts. Work, school, relationships, and responsibilities always seem to creep into my mind and take over. However, those are all earthly things and earthly things don’t last forever, but the love of our Savior does. During difficult times, trust in God as He is our refuge and our strength. With Him, we can overcome anything. It is so comforting to know that no matter what happens on this earth, we have a God that loves us and will never leave us.
